Would it be an exaggeration to say that Galadriel is a figure of contrasts? Pride and humility, gentleness towards others, and desire for power, beauty, and strength. Saint-like and penitent.
Even Tolkien himself, through various versions of Galadriel’s history, created contradictions and ambiguities. Did Galadriel commit the evil for which she repented all her life and only after refusing the temptation of the One Ring she passed the test? Or was she blameless and actively opposed Fëanor?
Many readers, including me, prefer Galadriel to be more complex, imperfect, and growing. It is closer to everyone’s experience. Moreover, we need examples showing that one can regret one’s actions and that good comes from such regret.
